Spring is Here

Spring has sprung.  At least on the calendar.

I live on the East Coast and the weather this last few months has been quite eventful.  If you enjoy the snow you are absolutely loving the weather we’ve had this season.  It’s been super cold and extra snowy.  But if you’re like most of us,  you’re ready this craziness to end.  And I have good news…

Spring has sprung.

At least on the calendar.

I was walking into work one morning this week  in 23 degree weather and the thought came  to my mind…isn’t it Spring?  Well yes, of course it is.  At least that’s what the calendar says.  And then immediately two questions came to mind…why am I stepping over a mound of snow and why am I freezing?

I KNOW that it’s Spring even though I SEE snow and I FEEL cold.

It was right then that God gave me a revelation. I have to conduct my life very similar to how I handled walking into work that day.  There are things that I have to KNOW, even though I see something or feel something that is contrary to those facts.

I KNOW that if God is for me then who can be against me.  So when my circumstances try to dictate my life, I have to hold on to what I know.

I KNOW that He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.  So when I don’t feel well or I received an unfavorable doctor’s report, who’s report will I believe?

I KNOW that when I fall into various trials, that I am to count it all joy because the testing of my faith produces patience.  And when patience has it’s perfect work, I will be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

What is it you need to KNOW today?  What are you seeing that you need to turn your eyes away from and look to where your help comes from?  What are you feeling that you need to exercise your God given self control to overcome?

Each of us have situations in our lives that our feelings are trying to dictate.  I implore you today to focus on what you KNOW and not what you feel.  You can do it.  And if you don’t yet know that you can, contact me and we’ll work together to find some scriptures to stand on.

Come Out With Your Hands Up

A few weeks ago, I was watching television with my son. A show came on and the announcer said,  ” And now, in color, The Dating Game”.

Well, I just about fell out of my chair laughing. My son looked quizzically at me. He could not figure out why in the world I was laughing. When I finally got myself together, I told him that it wasn’t the show that had me laughing, or the fact that the first lady came out in a sunshine yellow dress and these horrible shoes, it was the fact that the announcer said in color.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve heard that. I remember the times of black-and-white television. One of the things I remember about that old black-and-white was when my father watched westerns.  Right now, I can’t remember the names of the shows but there was one where the town sheriff was one of the main characters.  Whenever the old stagecoach was robbed or the town saloon, the sheriff would always come on the scene and eventually the bad guys came out with their hands up.

Things haven’t changed that much even now when watching TV, in color, you may hear those famous words, come out with your hands up . And eventually by the end of the show you see the bad guy with hands raised above his head walking out humbly at the command of the sheriff or the police detective. Just like the character Woody in Pixar Films Toy Story series, “Reach for the Sky”.

This  reaching for the sky is the universal sign for surrendering. This sign lets everyone know that you have given up. You are at the mercy of the one in charge. You are under the authority of the one calling you out.

Isn’t it amazing that the universal sign for surrender is also the universal sign for praise and adoration and worship of our Lord and King? But if you think about it, isn’t it the same thing? Letting God know that you surrender to Him and are giving Him complete control. Surrendering to God and letting him know that you were at his mercy and  that you acknowledges His authority over you.

Come out with your hands up today.  For some it’s hard to do. But once you surrender to him it’s the most freeing thing you can do.

Be well and be free my friends.

The Dash in the Middle

Imagine a ten gallon bucket filled to the brim with golf balls.  Is the bucket full?

Yes and no.  It’s filled with golf balls but there’s room for more.

Now imagine a huge pitcher full of marbles being poured into the bucket.  The bucket is being shaken for all of the marbles to settle to the bottom.  Is the bucket full?

Yes and no.  It’s filled with golf balls and marbles but there’s room for more.

Now you have a five pound bag of sand.  You’re now scooping the sand into the bucket and watching the sand sift through the golf balls and the marbles until the sand reaches the top.  Is the bucket full?

Yes and no.  It’s filled with golf balls, marbles and sand but there’s room for more.

There’s room for water.  And as you imagine the water filling the bucket, the sand is pressed down and eventually the water will over flow.  Is the bucket full?

Yes it is.  This bucket represents your life.  The important things in life like your family and friends are represented by the golf balls.  Other things that matter like your house and car are represented by the marbles.   The grains of sand are just like a lot of issues in our life, it’s the small stuff. And the water just reminds us that no matter how busy we think we are, if we really need to, if we really press in, we can make room for one more thing.

The moral of this little story is simple.  If we fill our lives with the small stuff we won’t have room for the big stuff.  My friends, please be certain that when the time comes for you to meet Jesus, He will be proud to call you home, certain to say well done and your loved ones left behind will have absolute comfort that you are with Him.

I know a great woman of God who seemingly was always ready and able to make everything fit in her life.  She had her priorities in order and I appreciate our Father God for allowing me the privilege of knowing her and calling her friend.  Her dash in the middle was so full of life and an earnest, steadfast love for the Lord.

KP, you will be sorely missed by so many. You will be sorely missed by me.  I love you girl. And thanks be to God, I’ll see you later.
